I took a chance on the Drax, and overall I’m not disappointed—but there are some important things you should know before buying.
For reference, I’m 6’0” and about 200 lbs. The bike fits me well, and the power is genuinely impressive for the price. It climbs steep hills without hesitation and feels strong in acceleration. The stock tires are also surprisingly good—they’re very grippy and inspire confidence on different terrain.
That said, after about a week of riding, a few issues started to show up.
First, the drivetrain needed attention almost immediately. The chain came a bit loose from the factory and required adjustment within the first few days. Not a huge deal, but worth noting.
More concerning is an issue under heavy throttle. In the highest speed mode (and sometimes in the second mode at higher speeds), the motor will bog, grind, and lose power. Cycling the key off and back on a couple of times seems to reset it temporarily. This points to a likely limitation or fault in the controller. I’ve reached out to the manufacturer and am waiting on a response, but it’s definitely something to be aware of.
The front suspension is another weak point. At my weight, the forks bottom out very easily. Even hitting a moderate bump at speed can fully compress the suspension, and if you attempt any kind of jump, the front tire will contact the fender on landing. It’s clear the stock forks are not designed for aggressive riding or heavier riders.
Because of how the bike is built, upgrading the front end isn’t as simple as just swapping forks. The axle size is non-standard compared to most aftermarket options, so upgrading the suspension typically requires:
- A new front wheel (to match the fork axle)
- A new brake setup (caliper and rotor) due to different mounting standards
- A new rotor size to match modern fork and brake compatibility
So it turns into a full front-end conversion rather than a simple upgrade.
To really make this bike solid long-term, I’d recommend planning for a few upgrades:
- A better controller (like a FarDriver)
- Upgraded front suspension (e.g., Hawk 32 or similar)
- A new front wheel and brake setup to match
- A heavier-duty chain
Once those are addressed, the rest of the bike feels like a strong platform. The frame, motor, and overall concept are good—it just needs refinement in key areas.
Bottom line: this bike is exactly what it looks like—a budget electric dirt bike. If you go in expecting premium components, you’ll be disappointed. But if you see it as a solid base to upgrade and customize, it’s actually a great value.
I’d buy it again—just with the expectation that it’s a starting point, not a finished product.
